Sulfur Determination in the Analysis Sample of Biomass

Sample Preparation
Crush & Grind the sample to size ≤ 1mm, then insert the sample into furnace under 815℃ to burn completely ,then grind the ash to the size ≤ 0.1mm

Instrument
5E-IRS3600 Automatic Infrared Sulfur Analyzer

Instrument Settings
Combustion chamber temp. :1350℃
Constant Oven: 48 ±1℃
Oxygen: Purity 99.5%
Pressure: (0.25 ± 0.01) MPa
Oxygen Flow (4.0 ± 0.2) L/min
Air Extracting Pump: 2.5L/min
Nominal Sample Weight: 100mg
Analysis Time: 120s
Available Model: IRS II & IRS3600

Special Modifications to Unit
None

Procedure
1. Prepare instrument as outlined in the operator’s instruction manual (Routine check for temp. stability, gas leak test, etc.)
2. Purge the gas system for 10mins
3. (1-2) waste samples to condition the instrument
4. Run analysis for 1-2 standards sample for verifying the accuracy
5. Test 10-15 samples
6. 1-2 samples of calibration substance for verification (do drift correction if necessary)
7. Repetition of point 5 to point 6 until all samples are processed

Note
As sulfur content in biomass is very low, so need to calibrate the instrument with standard CRM which has extreme low sulfur percentage.
